Children and personality

Living in the terrors of mass-shooting and sudden bombings in every nooks and crannies of their neighborhood, the idea of sitting down idly with friends and families do not even popped out in their head. Exercising cautions most of the time had made them hostile and restless throughout the years. Thus, does these made them less inhuman? To not be able to develop themselves like the rest of the world? The writing here existed solely on to explore the importance of childhood upbringing in personality development.

Syrian orphans
Schultz and Schultz (2017) quoted from Erikson stated that the early stages of life are to develop the sense of hope, will, and the purpose of the child. Erikson also stated that the first year of our life is our greatest time of helplessness. Thus, parents, teachers, and even to some environment hold the key to help us to grow and nurture these basic strengths to life. The absence of these person as due to war and attrition inhibit the orphans of Syria and create a situation where the normal upbringing would be proven difficult. For instances, infants are totally dependent on their mother for survival, security and affection. The interactions of infants with their mother would determine the development of trust in them.
The consistency, continuity of the mother’s affection provide the basis for the infant to fold their own personality later in life. This interaction not only exists biologically, but also socially. The absence of motherly figure in the infant’s life before or during the development of trust may led to the overtake of the feelings of uncertainty and wariness of others, leading to disbelief and mistrust towards the outside worlds. This proves that thousands of Syrian orphans lack the conviction to trust others and live in hostility most of their life, due to the unjustified war and suppression unto them.
